Our Partnership with J-TOP and the MD Anderson Cancer Center

At RFTC Japan, we are committed to ensuring that patients in Japan benefit from the most advanced, evidence-based breast cancer care available.

Through our collaboration with the Japan Team Oncology Program (J-TOP), we help bring the expertise and multidisciplinary approach of the MD Anderson Cancer Center into Japan — strengthening physician education, improving patient outcomes, and advancing a more connected global oncology community.

Bringing Global Expertise to Japan

J-TOP’s programs are rooted in the Team Oncology model pioneered at MD Anderson, where collaboration across specialties — surgeons, medical oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, and support teams — is essential to delivering the best possible patient care.

RFTC Japan actively supports this model by helping expand access to these programs, and ensuring that their impact reaches beyond major academic centers into the broader medical community.

Key Joint Programs We Support

Team Science Workshop (MD Anderson Faculty)

RFTC Japan supports participation in the Team Science Workshop, a flagship J-TOP program that brings together oncology professionals from across Japan and Asia.

This program is:

  • led in collaboration with the MD Anderson faculty
  • focused on multidisciplinary care, leadership, and communication
  • designed to strengthen real-world cancer care team

RFTC’s Role:
Through targeted funding and outreach, RFTC Japan helps enable physician participation — particularly for emerging leaders who will shape the future of cancer care in Japan.

Japan Medical Exchange (JME) Program

The JME Program provides Japanese physicians with direct clinical exposure at MD Anderson Cancer Center.

This program includes:

  • observerships within one of the world’s leading cancer centers
  • participation in tumor boards and advanced treatment planning
  • exposure to cutting-edge breast cancer therapies

RFTC’s Role:
RFTC Japan supports awareness and, where possible, sponsorship of candidates — helping ensure that knowledge gained at MD Anderson is brought back and applied within Japan.

Thought Leadership & Speaker Engagement

RFTC Japan also works to elevate the visibility of global oncology leadership in Japan by:

  • inviting leading physicians connected to J-TOP and MD Anderson to speak at RFTC events
  • featuring experts at the Pink Ball and other forums to share advances in breast cancer care
  • creating opportunities for dialogue between patients, clinicians, and supporters
This exchange of knowledge ensures that cutting-edge insights are not confined to academic settings but are shared, understood, and embraced by the broader community.

Why This Partnership Matters

Together, RFTC Japan, J-TOP, and MD Anderson are helping to:

Elevate care standards

We work tirelessly to raise the baseline of breast cancer treatment nationwide, ensuring medical facilities across Japan are equipped to deliver the highest quality of comprehensive oncology care.

Strengthen collaboration

We foster vital teamwork among oncologists, nurses, and specialists. By breaking down clinical silos, we help build unified, multidisciplinary teams that create cohesive treatment strategies.

Accelerate global best practices

We accelerate the integration of the latest international research and clinical innovations, bringing cutting-edge, world-renowned medical breakthroughs directly into Japanese healthcare systems.

Ensure patient-centered care

We believe treatment must focus on the whole person. Beyond medical advancements, we advocate for compassionate care models that deeply respect and prioritize the emotional and physical well-being of every patient.

Our commitment

At RFTC Japan, we believe that education saves lives.

By supporting J-TOP and its collaboration with MD Anderson, we are investing not only in today’s physicians but also in the future of cancer care in Japan.

Because when knowledge is shared, lives are saved.
