Message from the Chairman<\/h1>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

The global picture is sobering. In 2022, an estimated 2.3 million women worldwide were diagnosed with breast cancer, and approximately 670,000 died from the disease<\/strong>. Today, about one in twenty women will develop breast cancer during her lifetime.<\/p>

And without greater action, the challenge will grow. By 2050, breast cancer cases worldwide are projected to reach approximately 3.2 million each year, with 1.1 million deaths annually<\/strong>\u2014with the greatest burden falling on countries and communities where access to screening, diagnosis and treatment remains limited.<\/p>

But these projections are not our destiny. Through awareness, earlier detection, better access to care and continued advances in treatment, we can change the future.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The Challenge Here in Japan<\/h4>

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in Japan<\/strong> and remains a significant cause of cancer death.<\/p>

Yet, when breast cancer is detected at an early stage, outcomes can be excellent. In Japan, five-year survival for women diagnosed at Stage I or Stage II now exceeds 90 percent<\/strong>.<\/p>

These are not just statistics\u2014they\u2019re years of life<\/strong>.<\/p>

More years for a mother with her children. More years with their partners. More birthdays, anniversaries, friendships and ordinary days that become extraordinary simply because someone we love is still here.<\/p>

That is why early detection matters so much.<\/p>

Closing Japan\u2019s Screening Gap<\/h4>

Japan has made important progress, but we still have work to do.<\/p>

The national target for breast cancer screening participation is 60 percent<\/strong>, yet in recent surveys participation has remained below that goal.<\/p>

Every missed screening represents a potential missed opportunity to discover cancer when it is smaller, earlier and often more treatable.<\/p>

We can\u2014and must\u2014do better.<\/strong><\/p>

Turning Generosity Into Action<\/h4>

Run for the Cure\u00ae Foundation Japan exists to help close the gap.<\/p>

Through education, community outreach and programs supporting access to breast cancer screening and care, we work to ensure that more people have the knowledge and opportunity to protect their health.<\/p>

The mammography units we have helped place in communities across Japan have supported the early detection of breast cancer and helped connect women with the care they need.<\/p>

This is what your generosity makes possible.<\/p>

Awareness becomes action. Screening becomes early detection. And early detection can become lives saved.<\/strong><\/p>

Why This Mission Is Personal<\/h4>

For me, these statistics have never been simply numbers.<\/p>

I am a breast cancer survivor.<\/strong><\/p>

Every day, I am grateful for early detection, for the skilled medical professionals who cared for me and for the people who stood beside me.<\/p>

I choose not to spend my life worrying about whether cancer might return. Instead, I devote my energy to helping create a future in which more people survive breast cancer and fewer families experience the devastating loss it can bring.<\/strong><\/p>

That is why we educate.
That is why we encourage screening.
That is why we continue to fight.
That is our mission. And that is our promise.<\/strong>
