Fit for the Cure & 360 Wellness for Life 2016
On a lovely October 2nd Sunday morning, a charity exercise program, Fit for the Cure, and a wellness class designed for breast cancer survivors, called 360 Wellness for Life, were run by Club 360 in collaboration with Run for the CureⓇ Foundation. Open to the general public and free admission to people undergoing, or recovering from, breast cancer treatment, the event asked other participants to set their own donation amount as their participation fee.
Some 45 people, including breast cancer survivors, men and women, and children, came to Arisugawa Park in Minato ward. The program commenced at 8:30 a.m. with welcoming speeches by Lisa Batey, Licensed Massage Therapist from Club 360 and Program Director of 360 Wellness for Life, and Kiei Ogata, Run for the CureⓇ Foundation’s Awareness Program Manager.
Along with his teammates, Club 360 trainer Nathan Schmid led the Fit for the Cure exercise training that involved participants breaking into three groups. Each group had a different training program from the others. The first group, for example, did a jogging exercise with some cardio exercise at the end. The second group performed a series of upper-body exercises, while the third group practiced different boxing combos. At the end of each exercise session, the groups would then switch to a different trainer, and try a different exercise regimen. By the end of the program, everyone had done some jogging, upper-body workouts, and boxing exercises.
The 360 Wellness for Life segment consisted of a program specifically designed for breast cancer patients and survivors. With Trainer Bianca Penning, an accredited Exercise Physiologist at Club 360, leading the way, female participants engaged in different sets of exercises to fit their particular needs.
At the conclusion, everyone eagerly gathered around for the announcement of the raffle prize winning numbers. Donations for the day totaled 233,000 JPY. All proceeds will go toward Run for the CureⓇ Foundation’s community outreach programs, which include The Lemon Project seminars and the quarterly bilingual PINK magazine distributed nationwide, to help increase awareness about breast cancer as a life-threatening disease, its early detection and treatment in Japan.
